Where it all started
The focus is on improving and saving NGWATHE
On 3rd July 2022 there was a town meeting in Parys right in front of the Municipal Building and Clicks.
The public were supposed to get answers as to why the basic municipal services in Ngwathe is so bad. The focus for the day was on the electricity.
At this stage the electricity was cut off from Eskom’s side for 4 consecutive days. It was also made public that the Ngwathe municipality owes plus minus R1,8 billion to Eskom.
At that moment, we as the public realised that the appointed municipal officials, together with the political leaders of the town, could not give any practical and lasting solutions to the electricity problem in Parys.
No lasting solutions for NGWATHE
The following days/weeks after the meeting, the town continued to suffer under the burden and had to survive without electricity and water.
The effects of this were immense. Some citizen’s circumstances were so bad, that they were reduced to the point, where they had to use raw river water to drink and had to use the open field for a toilet.
The basic Human Right of every citizen was violated. As public we could not stand for this kind of disrespectful and humiliating treatment from the elected officials, who were paid to provide these basic services to the public.

Results
This will depend on the quick reaction and participation of the public. As soon as we have 5000 members or more, the movement will be considered representative of the Ngwathe area, and then we, the public, can negotiate with allot of weight on our side.
As soon as the new solution are agreed upon, implementation can start immediately. This can be done within the next month, or it might take several months or even a year. It all depends on the ability of the public to stand together under this movement.
Possible solutions
To appoint a third-party Company with good track record and great success in providing services to the total municipal area. There are not many such companies, as this is a massive undertaking. The leadership group did however identify “Rural” operating in Frankfort. They have great success and a great track record. They do qualify as a solution to the electrical problem in Ngwathe.
Pioneer is another third-party company which put their focus on water and sanitation.
Working together with these two companies, hope will be on the horizon, for the public of Ngwathe.
Lets work together to find a solution.
