Nuwe water pyplyn - Meer vrae as antwoorde

 SITE INSPECTION CHECKLIST

 13 April 2023

Background

As from the meeting held on Tuesday 4 April 2023 at 16:00 it was agreed that a site meeting should be held on 13 April 2023 at 14:00 which was postponed Via WhatsApp from 14:00 to 17:00

To assist the technical director in his duties, Save Ngwathe thought it well to make the meeting fruitful and productive by compiling a site inspection checklist for the representatives as it would be unreasonable to expect the community to have expertise on the laws and regulations that accompanies not only contractors but these same rules apply for our Municipality. Especially when working on critical infrastructure like waterlines that feeds reservoirs which in turn must supply water to a community starved of this basic need for so long that they would appreciate the fact that due diligence was taken when they went through all aspects of construction inclusive of all pre construction activities and to compile a quality management system based on law and regulation so that our town conforms to our national standards and regulations. This way we ensure quality of workmanship and a standardised method of work to achieve the desired outcome and provide running water in the taps of the end user.

Methodology

Save Ngwathe compiled a very basic checklist in only the high level construction sequence. This would assist the meeting members to know what to look for in the inspection.

After the meeting is concluded, a snag list would be compiled for the assistance of the Technical Department of Ngwathe Local Municipality. The snag list would be circulated to the meeting members. This would ensure that the Technical Director would have enough input from an educated community and can respond easier and quicker to assist the construction team.

The checklist would make reference to the SANS 1200 and its various sub categories. In order to make the document short and fit for purpose, the full extract will not be placed in the document. It is accepted that any municipal technical department must have a copy of the SANS 1200 and can assist the Representatives with full extracts of the SANS 1200 upon request.

Categories of the SANS 1200 would include:

  • SANS 1200A (GENERAL)
  • SANS 1200C (SITE CLEARANCE)
  • SANS 1200DB (PIPE TRENCHES)
  • SANS 1200LB (BEDDING PIPES)
  • SANS 1200 L (MEDIUM PRESSURE LINES)

Please refer to the Site Inspection Checklist for a very high overview of the topics that needs to be looked at when doing construction and doing site inspections.
